Production

Four B-1As and one hundred B-1Bs were built. The first B-1B was delivered to the Air Force on July 27th 1985, and the last on April 30th 1988. The following table lists all the aircraft which were built.

(NB aircraft with blue serials are those I have personally seen. Those in red have been written off. Those in magenta are ones I haven't seen that have been retired to museums or AMARC. Those in purple I have seen but are now retired)

76-0174 c/n 4 First flight 14 Feb 1979. Flew 70 missions for 378 hours. Visited Farnborough Air Show Sept 1982. Used to develop B-1B systems. Was on display at the USAF Museum, Dayton, Ohio. In October 2003 it was moved to the Strategic Air and Space Museum at Ashland, Nebraska (formerly the SAC Museum).

It was placed in flyable storage at Edwards AFB on 28 Apr 1988, having flown 138 test messions for 617 hours. On 02 Aug 1988 it was flown to Ellsworth AFB where it became a weapons-loading trainer. In May 1995 it was dismantled to comply with START. Parts of the airframe were used for JP-8 fire propagation testing at Wright-Patterson AFB.
